MDC Alliance top official David Coltart has said Zambian lawyer Gilbert Phiri is preparing an urgent application to the High Court in Lusaka tonight for an interdict to stay any decision to return Tendai Biti to Zimbabwe.
Phiri has previous represented Zambia’s opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema who faced treason charges. Hichilema was freed after the state prosecutor dropped charges against him and five others.
Biti was denied political asylum by Zambia with the country’s Foreign Minister Joe Malanji telling the BBC that Biti has been denied asylum because his case did not have merit. He also said Biti would be sent back to Zimbabwe.
