Cape Town – English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran’s first ever South African concerts in both Johannesburg and Cape Town sold out within an hour, live entertainment promoter, Big Concerts said on Friday.

“Tickets to both shows in Cape Town (27 March 2019) and Johannesburg (23 March 2019) had been sold out within an hour of being released to the public.”

Ticket sales for Cape Town went live on Thursday morning at 9am, and for the Johannesburg dates went live on Friday at 9am.

The flood of ticket sales caused ticket distributor, Computicket to crash but was restored later in the day.

Due to a high demand for tickets to Sheeran’s performances in South Africa, an extra performance was added to the tour for March 24 in Johannesburg.

Computicket confirmed that Discovery members had access to the tickets from March 26, three days before they were made available to the general public.

Discovery card-holders received an email with a link through which they were able to book tickets, which was limited to eight ticket-bookings per transaction.

The tickets sold out at a rapid speed, with only single tickets being available by the end of business on Friday, for the extra performance in Johannesburg.

Sheeran posted a photo to social media website, Instagram, earlier this week to announce the South African leg of his “Divide” tour.
