MDC-T acting secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora said the party “regrets” expelling 21 MDC Alliance legislators from Parliament but had to so since they were no longer serving the party’s interests.

Mwonzora’s remarks come after the MDC-T expelled 8 MDC Alliance senators from Parliament on Wednesday. Mwonzora said:

These MPs proclaimed that they had left the MDC-T. Some said so in court documents. It is something that we have done with regret, but we cannot allow people to short-change the MDC-T.

The latest legislators to be recalled by Mwonzora are Keresencia Chabuka (Manicaland), Spiwe Ncube (Bulawayo), Phyllis Ndlovu (Matabeleland North), Meliwe Phuti (Matabeleland South), Gideon Shoko (Bulawayo), Bhebhe Sinamupande (Matabeleland North), Tapfumaneyi Vunganayi (Mashonaland East) and Hellen Zivira (Bulawayo).

Meanwhile, the party’s acting spokesperson Khalipani Phugeni said the MDC-T national council had passed a resolution to recall all senators and proportional representation (PR) legislators still supporting MDC Alliance president Nelson Chamisa.
