ZIMBABWEANS have called on authorities to place under mandatory 21-day quarantine the 32 Zimbabwean citizens who have landed at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport in Harare on Monday afternoon from the UK.

According to Sly Media, AN Ethiopian Airlines place carrying the Zimbabwean citizens landed at the Harare airport around midday Monday.

Zimbabwe is on day 15 of a 21-day national lockdown meant to starve off the spread of the coronavirus.

Another publication reported: At 12:30pm Ethiopian Airlines registration number ETARF will arrive at the Robert Mugabe International Airport and on board are 32 Zimbabweans living in the United Kingdom, currently the epicentre of the deadly Corona virus outbreak.

Sources told this publication that government is in a quandary on way forward because it does not have a ready isolation centre where they can be quarantined for the mandatory 21 days.

“We are not yet sure what will be done because the only current recommendation is that they should self-quarantine,” said the source.

Ethiopian Airlines has been one of the few that has been in operation since the lockdown, carrying key diplomatic as well as other essential human and cargo transportations.

The UK has been among the hardest hit European countries, with over 84,000 infections and more than 10,000 deaths as of 14 April 2020.

Zimbabwe currently has 14 cases, including three deaths.
