MUTOKO, Zimbabwe – Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Senator Apolonia Munzverengwi has sent a message of condolences to families of the 17 victims of a road traffic accident which occurred in Mutoko along the Harare – Nyamapanda highway this Sunday.
In her message, Senator Munzverengwi said the province is saddened by the fatal accident and stands with the affected families during this difficult time.
She also wished the injured a speedy recovery.
The accident occurred when an Isuzu KB double cab vehicle collided head-on with a BMW vehicle, which was travelling towards Nyamapanda.
14 people died on the spot, while three died on admission at Mutoko hospital.
The Mashonaland East Civil Protection Department has since recommended that the accident be declared a national disaster.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police has released the names of 8 people who perished in the accident and these are Sandra Kanobata aged 14, Abigal Chitimba (30), Major Mushumbi (7), Ngaakudzwe Nkolomah (1), Nyasha Chikuza (7), Masimba Rutsito (39), Kupakwashe Rutsito (13) and Samuel Mapuranga (2).
