A photo shared on Angela Merkel’s official Instagram page appears to hint at some of the billed tension at the G7 summit in Canada.
The summit was dubbed “the G6 plus one” due to the billionaire tycoon’s isolation over trade and his decision to pull the US out of the Iran nuclear deal.
Now a picture by the German cabinet’s official photographer, Jesco Denze, shows the chancellor standing over the US president, who is sitting with his arms crossed.
Also standing across the table are French President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Theresa May.
The former engaged in a Twitter argument with Mr Trump this week over new US tariffs on steel and aluminium which will affect the EU, Canada and Mexico.
Photographs also suggested there may have been a tense handshake between the pair in another sign their “bromance” is over.
One showed marks left on Mr Trump’s hand.
Prior to the summit Mrs May had called the tariffs “unjustified and deeply disappointing”.
