According to African Football, Liverpool are leading the race to sign the brilliantly named Marvelous Nakamba who currently plays for Club Brugge.
The midfielder isn’t really that well known in Europe but is a big star in Zimbabwe and is fancied to make the step towards a big European club before too long.
Indeed, he has all the traits of those midfielders that are in vogue at the moment – the likes of N’Golo Kante and Naby Keita and so he might be a decent player to add to our side.
At 23-years-old he has still got plenty of time to learn and with Emre Can potentially off before too long, we’re going to need another central midfielder.
We’re leading the race for the player, then, but let’s wait and see if anything comes of that.
The Zimbabwean international midfielder Marvelous Nakamba who was signed for close to $4 million by top Belgian side Club Brugge has already been compared to the club’s legendary 40-year-old defensive midfielder, Timmy Simons.
Simons played as a defensive midfielder and is known for his tireless work ethic and penalty-taking ability, having scored 48 competitive goals through the spot missing only five.
“New Simons comes from Zimbabwe”: screamed the headline from De Standard newspaper which also revealed that the former Bantu Rovers junior player was captured from Netherlands side Vitesse for a fee of about $4 million in a four- year deal.
“A number six, a replacement for Timmy Simons, sure to be added,” Club Brugge chief executive officer Vincent Mannaert told the media.
Nakamba, the son of former Hwange goalkeeper Anthony has now joined Zimbabwe’s elite footballers to played in Europe’s club competition who include legendary goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar, Kennedy Chihuri, Norman Mapeza, Costa Nhamoinesu and Musa Mguni.
