Zimbabwe captain Knowledge Musona has signed for Belgian giants RSC Anderlecht following an impressive season in the Belgian top flight with Oostende.
The 27 year old has been playing his football in the country since 2015, when he joined Oostende following relatively unsuccessful spells in Germany with Hoffenheim and Augsburg.
However Musona, also popularly known as ‘The Smiling Assassin’, has been a revelation in Belgium, scoring 41 and assisting 18 in 112 appearances including 10 goals and 6 assists in 28 games this season. Musona is also the highest scoring active Zimbabwe international with 17 goals in 29 appearances, bettering the total of star winger Khama Billiat by 10 goals.
The news follows on from last December when Oostende owner Marc Coucke completed a takeover of Anderlecht from the Vanden Stock family who had owned the club sine 1971.
Musona had been linked with a move to Standard Liege who recently qualified for the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League ahead of their rivals Anderlecht who acquired the Zimbabwean’s services on a four year deal. He will instead play in next season’s Europa League as Anderlecht finished third in the Belgian playoffs meaning they are guaranteed to be in at least the group stage of the next edition of the competition.
Hein Vanhaezebrouck’s men will focus their attention on pre season before their attempt to reclaim the Belgian First Division title which was won by Club Brugge last season, who feature Musona’s international teammate Marvelous Nakamba.
