Armed robbers strike at Masvingo 24 Hour Medical Centre

MASVINGO – Two groups of armed robbers believed to have seven members each simultaneously attacked Masvingo 24 Hour Medical Centre and another company in the industrial area in Masvingo last night.

The robbers who pounded at around 1am today looked for the hospital’s cashbox and went away almost empty handed after failing to locate it. They then took cash from a nurse’s handbag and two cell phones which they dumped outside the hospital probably to avoid the mobile gadgets’ tracker systems.

The robbers who are said to have been jittery about the CCTV assaulted a nurse at the hospital.
An official at the hospital who declined to be named confirmed the incident.

This is the second armed robbery in Zimre Park in a few weeks as a spate of robberies have hit Masvingo. Three weeks ago prominent businessman Phillip Mapfumo was robbed at his house in Rhodene.

The other group of robbers hit Markney Transport Company a stone throw away in the heavy industrial area.

At Markney the robbers bound the hands and legs of a Fawcett security guard and tied them together using shoe strings. They are said to have escaped with an undisclosed amount of money.

Markney director Ushe Masimba confirmed the robbery to The Mirror and said the robbers made way with an undisclosed amount and a laptop. Masimba said he received a call from a truck driver who was parked in the premise that there was a robbery going on.

“I received a call around 1am from a truckdriver informing me that a group of seven thieves jumped the Durawall, attacked a security guard and an employee on night duty before binding their hands and feet with shoe strings.

“The truckdriver witnessed the whole incident and called us soon after the robbers left,” said Masimba. https://masvingomirror.com
