HARARE – The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) leader Morgan Tsvangirai will not step down despite his failing health, a party official has said.

Outspoken Glen View North MP Fani Munengami said the opposition party would not be pushed by external forces to call for Tsvangirai’s resignation.

He claimed ruling party Zanu PF elements were desperate to push Tsvangirai out of the much anticipated elections.

Speaking on Capitalk Radio, Munengami said Tsvangirai was the party’ s candidate for the Presidential elections despite incessant calls for his resignation.

“The party constitution is very clear on succession issues. Above all Tsvangirai is our candidate for the Presidential elections.

We know there are external forces pushing for his resignation.

Let me reiterate that we are fully behind Tsvangirai and we will continue to pray for him,” said Munengami.
