HARARE - President Robert Mugabe’s sister, Sabina has died. Unwell for some time, Sabina succumbed to an undisclosed ailment at her Eastlea home in Harare Wednesday night.

A top Zanu PF official and close family friend confirmed the former Zvimba  member of parliament’s death.

Sabina’s home at the corner of Samora Machel Avenue and Glenara Road was cordoned off by police and security personal when the Daily News crew passed by.

Sabina, who is survived by four children among them former Zimbabwe Football Association chairman Leo Mugabe, controversial Zanu PF youth director and Manyame member of parliament Patrick Zhuwawo and Robert Zhuwawo, was one of Mugabe’s last two surviving siblings.

Bridgette is the other surviving sister.

An equally controversial and hardline politician, Sabina was seen as the cog of the Mugabe clan. Seen as the closest sibling to the ageing Zimbabwean leader, Sabina only retired from active politics due to illness more than two years ago.

At one time, she was a member of parliament together with her sons Leo and Zhuwawo. -Daily News
