BIG-MOUTH, LITTLE SUBSTANCE: The Gobby Zimbabwe Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara

CAPE TOWN - Zimbabwe will not benefit from the "patronising" and "ignorant" meddling of foreigners who know nothing about the real situation in the country, Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara has said, sounding more like a Zanu PF cadre.

Speaking in South Africa, DPM Mutambara said Zimbabwe was better guided by Sadc and the African Union, and that Zimba-bweans have the last say on the way forward politically.

Internet news sites also quoted him as saying although the inclusive Government had a two-year lifespan — from September 2008 to September 2010 — there was room to keep the arrangement in place if conditions on the ground so required.

"There are two major reasons why there is scepticism (about the inclusive Government by Western countries), one of them is sheer ignorance and arrogance on the part of the West.

"I went to Oxford — I taught at MIT, I’m a Rhodes scholar. I think it’s fair to say that I know better than (US President Barack) Obama what is good for Zimbabwe, that I know better than Mrs Hillary Clinton what is good for Zimbabwe.

"So it is very arrogant and patronising for Hillary or Obama to prescribe what is best for Zimbabwe without talking to me first.

"In my opinion, the starting point is to remove ignorance and to remove arrogance on the part of the West vis-à-vis what’s good for Africa," he said.

"So we, for example in this inclusive Govern-ment, we are guided by Sadc member countries, they said ‘do it in your country’s national interest’.

"Once they advise us to do that, we cannot succeed if we go up against them.

"So the greatest influence over the future of Zimbabwean politics lies not with the intervention of Western governments, but rather lies with Africa and the will of the African people," he said.

DPM Mutambara said Zimbabweans were best placed to know their needs, adding that the inclusive Government was the best alternative at the moment for the governance of the country.

He also said the problems Zimbabwe was facing were not insurmountable.

"Our people are experiencing a new reality. Yes, there are problems, yes there are challenges, but they are not insurmountable."

On elections, he said while the GPA said they should be held within two years of the signing of the agreement, what was more important was the creation of conditions so that the poll outcome would not be disputed.

A Rhodes Scholar??? So he is boasting about a supremacist education policy created by Cecil John Rhodes who sought domination over the planets indigenous people.

Mutambara people like you have no shame just lost happy lap dogs, take a real close look at the world your masters have created.

If Mutambara 's claim to know the of Zimbabweans is based in his claim to American/British values, is he any different to the people he is criticizing, but by extension of the same argument,is he saying that we are fools because we don't have the same academic record as his.The man is really naive, lacks a proper understanding of realpolitik. Its clear that the world is not so innocent, not even Africa,Sadc and Mutambara and his faction.

some people, (particularly from MDC-T) are quick to respond negatively to any word that comes out of Mutmbara or any official from MDC-M, for that matter. they go out of their ways to twist and crimilise the staments issued by any official from MDC-M, without considering the content of these statements.at times l tend to wonder what kind of democracy is being advocated for by MDC-T and its followers...

Amen, you are creating your own message. Mutambara did not seek to criticise the education or the domination of Rhodes, rather he is telling them that he knows the Zimbabwe situation very well. Even if we accept your interpretation of Mutambara's message, the DPM argues that he has mastered that Cecil John Rhodes education that seeks to dominate the world, to the extent that he is even better informed and educated than Obama. In other words, he is better than them at their "dominant education" and therefore they cannot tell him anything because he has 2 advantages: 1) he is better leatned in that education which legitimises Obama's utterances (portrayed as an informed position) and 2) he has better Zimbabwean knowledge than Obama.
So whichever way you want to advance your argument its still weak and patronising. It lacks rigor.

It amazes me that people do not seem to see that Mutambara makes a naive and arrogant assertion. People of Zimbabwe do not care where Mutambara got educated which is probably reflected by their rejection of him during elections. Zimbabwe has numerous fallen and living heroes who never had the time to grandstand and spew garbage about where they went to school, because that has little all no benefit to Zimbabweans. Why didnt he tell us the whole story and how he was laid off from his professorship for incompetence. Its probably time for Mutambara to realise that the common man in Zimbabwe has brains and will not buy this nonsense!

But, do we need to be Rhodes or Oxford scholars to understand the Zimbabwean situation "very well" or better than others?

Normally this breed turns out to be dictators - the ones that comes to mind are the likes of Robert Mugabe, Jonathan Moyo and Welshman Ncube.

Zimbabwean politicians must learn to be humble in order to facilitate two way communication.

Honestly, ever since Mutambara got into this Unity gvt, to me, he has not been able to show us the value of his credentials.

SADC has failed us by ignoring election report of its monitors and it has been used by Robert Mugabe and Thabo Mbeki.

@Common Sense

I dislike blind mice like you but here is the research you should have done before responding.
google - Cecil Rhodes White supremacist.

"Did you know that the famed Rhodes scholarship was established by a White supremacist named Cecil Rhodes in order to help ensure world dominance of the Anglo-Saxon race? Ever heard of a Rhodes Scholar? Not to be confused with a ""road scholar,"" but a Rhodes Scholar is a person who has been selected by the Rhodes Foundation, the oldest international fellowship, to attend the University of Oxford. All educational costs, such as matriculation, tuition, laboratory and certain other fees are paid on the Scholar's behalf by the Rhodes Trustees. Each Scholar receives, in addition, a maintenance allowance adequate to meet necessary expenses for term-time and vacations. The Rhodes Trustees cover the necessary costs of travel to and from Oxford, and upon application, may approve additional grants for research purposes or study-related travel."

Each year 90 students are chosen to receive Rhode Scholarships to attend Oxford University, 32 of which must come from the United States. The Rhodes Foundation was established by Cecil Rhodes, a White supremacist who stated publicly several times that he wanted to bring the entire continent of Africa under British control, recover American colonies for the British Empire, and establish a world government based on the principals of the British Empire and ruled by British aristocrats.

The life of Cecil Rhodes is very disturbing if you are of African decent. With the help of the British government, Rhodes is responsible for pillaging and raping hundreds of millions of Africans in order to control their natural resources and expand the British Empire. Upon Rhodes' death, he left seven wills outlining how his fortune should be used. In one manuscript called ""Confessions of Faith,"" Rhodes clearly outlines his goal to create Anglo-Saxon racial supremacy. As stated earlier, his most famed legacy is the Rhodes Scholarship. Rhode Scholars are hand picked and as stated on the official Rhodes Scholarship website, Rhode Scholarships ""are investments in individuals rather than in project proposals."" I submit to anyone who reads this that before anyone makes an investment in anything, they expect something in return. Of course you will find nowhere within any official documentation of the Rhodes Foundation what they expect in return for their investments in people.

If you are interested in further details of the sinister circumstances surrounding the Rhodes Scholarship and Cecil Rhodes, more information is just a web search away.

@amen you should go to the nearest cemetry and die.zim doesn't need people like you, who are narrowly minded....you call mutambara a dictator, on what grounds.is because of the fact that he leads a party that has consistently refused to bow down to the whims of MDC-T? has he (Mutambara) ever deleted his party constitution in oirder to entrech his grip on power..MDC-T, just like ZANU pf is the party that is led by a ditactor, a life president, to be more specific..if anything, l think it is high time the MDC-T should stop misusing and abusing the democracy slogan because the reality on the ground shows that its neither democratic nor a peoples moevement.
