LEEDS, UK - Police have seized £350,000 worth of cars in Leeds as part of a probe into an alleged car clocking fraud and money laundering by three Zimbabweans..

Police and trading standards towed away 33 cars following the arrests earlier this week of two men and a woman during raids on five addresses across Leeds including S and D Car Sales in Oldfield Lane, Wortley

The three, who were suspected to be from Zimbabwe, were were released on bail.

They were detained as part of investigations into reports that high mileage luxury cars bought at auctions had their mileometers clocked back before being sold at inflated prices and the proceeds moved to Zimbabwe.

The cars have been seized on the basis that they may be classed as criminal property as it is suspected their Zimbabwean keepers are not legally allowed to work.

Twenty-nine cars seized were removed from S and D Car Sales including Mercedes, Audis and BMWs.

Two top of the range Audi estate cars, a black Jaguar XK 4.2 coupe and a black VW estate were also seized from a house on Old Lane, Beeston, where a 31-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were arrested. A 32-year-old man was also arrested.

Det Sgt Tom Walsh, of the City and Holbeck Proceeds of Crime Team, appealed for anyone who has bought cars from S and C Car Sales to contact the Team via 0845 6060606 or anyone with information to ring Crimestoppers anonymously ohn 0800 555 111.
