Former Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa

A twitter account in the name of  Zimbabwe’s “acting president Emmerson Mnangagwa”, which started issuing  “updates”  yesterday morning on what was allegedly happening since the military takeover, was suspended last night becoming the second such twitter account in the name of Mnangagwa to be suspended.

Another twitter account which claimed to be that of the provisional account had all its tweets deleted and now goes under the name of the interim government.

This account yesterday announced that President Robert Mugabe had agreed to step down and a provisional government would be announced in 48 hours. It also listed all the names of ministers that had been arrested but all the tweets have been deleted.

The Zimbabwe Defence Forces said it was currently in talks with Mugabe and defence attaches accredited to Zimbabwe have been briefed to appraise their principals on the obtaining situation in the country.

It warned, however, that “while we appreciate the enthusiasm by certain individuals and groups within society, we want to make it clear that they should not purport to be speaking on our behalf.”

The ZDF said it has made significant progress in its operation to weed out criminals around President Mugabe .
