MASHAVA – Wives of former Shabani Mashaba Mines at Gaths Mine have foiled an attempt by the company to evict them and their families from company houses. The Mine attempted to evict them on Wednesday.

Reports from Mashava indicate that 200 women stood their ground when tractors hired to ferry their goods arrived and vowed not to move an inch until all outstanding payments due to their husbands were settled. The families were supposed to be moved to Temeraire and King Mine to pave way for an education institute that is supposed to have bought the houses. The wives demanded that company pay their husbands’ dues from the proceeds of the sale of the houses.

Sources said management represented by human resources manager Catherine Nyambiya had hired tractors to ferry the miners’ belongings. Efforts to get a comment from Nyambiya were fruitless.
