A RUSAPE businessman who allegedly raped his lover’s daughter disappeared on the day he was supposed to be sentenced. A warrant of arrest has been issued against Simba Mushonga (39) whose whereabouts are unknown.

Rusape regional magistrate Mr Livingstone Chipadza, issued the warrant of arrest for Mushonga who absconded on his sentencing day.

Mushonga is alleged to have raped his lover’s 17-year-old daughter after the mother, a reverend with an unidentified church, had left her home while she travelled to Harare. He was out on $100 bail. Mushonga, who runs a fleet of public transport vehicles that commute the Rusape-Gandanzara route had denied the rape charges and a full trial was conducted before Mr Chipadza.

After realising that a conviction was imminent on November 24, Mushonga disappeared. Rusape District prosecutor, Mr Tirivanhu Mutyasira represented the State, while Mutare lawyer, Mr Farai Matinhure of Gonese and Ndlovu Legal Practitioners represented Mushonga.

Allegations were that in November, the 17-year-old who stays with her father in Sakubva had visited her mother in Rusape for the holidays.

“While the mother was in Harare for business, Mushonga went home and asked if the child could prepare some food for him. After eating, Mushonga raped the complainant,” alleged the State.
