THE key to everything is patience!
The above saying seems to make sense to a Mberengwa man who is in trouble for fondling breasts of a Grade Seven pupil whom he wished to marry as a second wife.
Matisoni Maphosa (50) of Fani village in Mberengwa left the court in stitches when he revealed that he wants to marry the Grade Seven pupil as his second wife.
It seems he failed to be patient and wait for the girl to reach marriageable age, therefore making advances that landed him in trouble.
Maphosa appeared before Zvishavane magistrate Shepherd Mjanja facing indecent assault charges and he pleaded guilty.
The court heard that on 14 July, the girl was on her way to fetch firewood when she realised that the old man was following her.
He then caught up with her and proposed love, stating that he was serious and wanted to marry her as his second wife. When the girl was still shocked by what was happening, Maphosa grabbed her from behind and started fondling her breasts.
Fortunately, he then realised that there was a herd-boy watching them and he stopped, telling the girl to run away and never to tell anyone.
Upon arrival at home, the girl narrated the ordeal to her mother, resulting in the man’s arrest.
He was convicted on his own plea of guilty and was sentenced to nine months of which three months were suspended on condition of good behaviour.
For the remaining six months he will perform 315 hours of community service.
