Lands, Agriculture and Rural Resettlement Minister Retired Air Chief Marshall Perrance Shiri has warned that the government will not hesitate to bring to book those bent on causing anarchy on farms saying all bonafide farmers with tenure documents should be left to carry out activities without hindrances.

Retired Air Chief Marshall Shiri who was speaking during a tour of Muni farm, Emily Park and Chifundi farms in Mhangura constituency, warned that no farmer regardless of their race, should be terrorised for whatever reasons as the practice disturbs production and threatens food security.

The three farms benefitted through the Brazil More Food for Africa programme.

He said those disturbing farming activities on pieces of land for which plot holders were issued with bonafide tenure documents are in fact fighting the government that resettled such farmers.

Retired Air Chief Marshall Shiri applauded Emily Park for exceeding expectations and expressed hope the other two farms will rise to the occasion and put their equipment to maximum use.

“Please don’t disturb those with tenure documents, whether they are white or black. Once you do that, you are fighting the government,” he said.

He added that squatters who settled themselves illegally will be evicted at the end of the summer season after harvesting their crops.

Unlike in the previous regime, today’s tour was attended by quite a number of white commercial farmers who later held a meeting with Minister Shiri and Mashonaland West Minister of State, Cde Webster Shamu. – ZBC
